So I was checking out the newscast in Hawaii. If what I heard is correct we WILL get marriage equality there.

There are 25 in the Hawai'ian Senate, of which 21 are on record in support. There are 51 in their House of which 27 have said they are in support. You just need 26 to pass the House. There are 17 definite No's, and 7 so far undecided.

I'm not clear just how soon the votes will take place. There will be open hearings this week, but if all vote as they have said publicly, and as the Governor is lobbying for the bill to pass, Hawai'i should become the 15th state sometime in the very near future.

Senate JUD committee passed SB1 out of committee last night, now on to the full senate where it's expected to pass 21-4 if all members vote. SB 1 will be heard by a joint committee of Judiciary and Finance in the House on Thursday, starting at 10 AM. Optimistic forecast suggest that there are 30 yes votes, with some members currently playing coy with their vote. Still, the religious nut jobs are out in force. One woman at the Senate hearings, yesterday, looked over to the corner where the rainbow-lei wearing homos were, pronounced her love for them, and then proceeded to tell the committee about how they spread AIDS to helpless people. We've been accused of trying to indoctrinate school children, and more than one testifier tried to lead the committee room audience in the lord's prayer.

It's pretty crazy out here.
