Awoke this morning a few minutes after 7, facing the sliding glass door. The door faces east and the sunlight streaming though it was glorious, except of course if you had plans of continuing to sleep. I pulled the covers over my head in hopes I would once again be gathered into the loving arms of Morpheus. Nathan had other plans. During the night he'd parked himself between LJ and I, and my pulling the covers over me, was his cue to start doing the kitty massage thing, on my bare back, claws extended. Sleep proved elusive.

I arose and decided a shower would be a good idea. Walked to the bathroom (more like stumbled, but I shan't mince words), started the water running, took a leak and returned to enter the shower, only to suffer a searing pain in my right foot. I thought I'd stepped on a shard of broken glass. I had stepped on a scorpion instead.

Both cats looked rather surprised watching me jump up and down in the raw, while holding my foot. Now no matter how attractive one finds bears, trust me, this is not a particularly arousing pose. LJ came and put the small arachnid out of its misery. I unfortunately still have a nastily annoying burning sensation in my foot, several hours after the fact. It's a damned good thing the local scorpions (sporpia? scorpii?) are not particularly damaging to humankind. This amounts to an arachnid equivilent of a yellow-jacket sting. Painful, but as long as it doesn't get infected, I should be fine. Limping a bit, but fine. I hope the remainder of the day goes better than this.

On a lighter note, I found a link to this artist's work in a friend's LJ. Y'all might find this man's work amusing to look at. It certainly lightened my mood. http://www.clarkmade.com/urinals.html

I've made it to Petaluma to see Don this morning. At the moment he's replacing the R 134 in my car's air conditioner (so by this afternoon, my jalopy will no longer be a convection oven on wheels) and while he does this I'm tackling his laundry. Seems equitable to me. 3 loads down, 3 to go. Somehow, I think we're going to be short on hangers.

Last year on a trip to Costco, I found that they had copies of Gregory McGuire's retelling of classic fairytales. He's the author of "Wicked", a retelling of the Wizard of Oz from the view point of the Wicked Witch of the West, and upon which the B'way musical was based. I saw the show when it first started its run in SF prior to going to NY, and thought it was wonderful. The book is a wonderful read. I finally opened it last night and before I knew it I was a quarter of the way through the book. I also have "Mirror Mirror" and "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister". At this rate I'll be through all 3 by the end of next week, and out looking for "Son of a Witch".

Ahhhhhhh, the airconditioning is done, and the car is coooooooool.....
