I need some new Karaoke material. What I do, I do well (self praise I know, but just ask Country Dan); however, my repertoire is not as broad as it should be.
As for self praise, I had my vocal 'ass' handed to me on Friday, when I went to sing for my 5th and final sang of the night and decided to do "The Music of the Night". Dan let me know as he handed me the mike, he no longer trusted the disc I usually used for the song and I was getting another. I had just done a duet with Matthew, "For Good" from "Wicked" and he had decided to take that one up two steps instead of one. Fer Christsake guys, I'm a Bearatone, not a second tenor! I managed the duet without too much trouble, BUT the tempo of the next song was faster than I was used to and the dramatic and extened high note was just a scootch out of my reach without an adequate breath to back it up. I cracked. Badly. Painfully so. Enough for one night.
I downloaded a bunch of material to a CD to learn and practice driving to and from work. Some country (Keith Urban), some standards (Cole Porter) and even a little Sinatra. One of them was "Moonlight in Vermont". The particular recording was a duet, tempo a bit so slow I think for what I need to learn and somehow I'm not certain it's right for me. However, I now cannot get either the tune or the lyric out of my head. And I don't even care for the tune all that much. Sheesh.
