Some days I cannot keep up with my own cynicism.
I was preparing lunch in the microwave (a couple of Boca burgers, a half a bagel and a diet ice tea) when my PA, who was sitting at his computer started that tsk, tsk, tsk sound. I know when I hear that sound, even if he isn't looking at me, he has something to tell me. I was right.
"What's up?", I inquired.
"The cost for my DEA license renewal just went up to over $500. It's not quite double what it used to be. What on earth do they need that money for?"
Without missing a beat I replied, "the war in Iraq."
"You really think so?"
I looked at him over my reading glasses.
"Let's see. Our commander-in-thief is doing his best to bankrupt our country and the bureaucrats in DC have to get the money to run things in this country somewhere. Why not from you?"
"Then collect it from everyone!" As if we're not already paying for this conflict through the bloody nose!
"Sorry if this is preaching to the choir," I continued, "but, when the Republicans were in power in the Congress, they impeached Bill Clinton for getting head in the Oval Office, a consensual liaison, even if it wasn't from his wife and then lying about it. Did any one die? Did it bankrupt our treasury? Was he not doing his job and doing it well? The current fool in the White House, lied to get us into a war, a war that would benefit powerful companies like Halliburton, and even permitted (if not endorsed) his minions to publicly 'out' a covert CIA agent, without so much as a mea culpa, yet this man hasn't been indicted for treason, let alone impeached? Why? Because there are still way too many of his ilk still in power on Capital Hill and there are too many red-state sheep still voting for them!"
