Got an email from the folks in Mexico City this morning.

I'm scheduled to be on the redeye this time tomorrow night, on my way to the Casa de los Amigos for a gathering of un-programmed Friends (aka 'silent' Quakers; the folks who had no ministers or set worship services, but who sit in group meditation seeking the inspiration of the Divine) who live throughout Latin America. Friends from the communities in Cuba, Costa Rica, Guatamala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and I think Uruguay were expected. This is a big deal for the Meeting in Mexico City and a major shot in the arm for increasing community amongst the wider Quaker diaspora.

At least it was supposed to be.

When they initially announced this gathering, the response was excellent. However, in the past two weeks, mostly due to the cost of transportation, cancellations from many, if not most of the people expected to gather, have been sent instead. The word from the Casa this morning, is that the gathering is expected to be only Mexico City Friends, plus a handful of Friends from the US.

I am bummed big time.

So, what to do? What to do?

After work, I still will head to the airport and get on the big bird for parts south. I need to me in Mexico City, now more than before to support this Meeting.

I hope they have more copies of Fe y Practica I can bring back with me.

Spent this morning with LJ and getting ready for my trip to Mexico City. Left for the office at 11:30 this morning and since I had not eaten b'fast, when I hit my morning coffee stop, I thought a sandwich for brunch would be a good idea.

I waited for someone in a pickup to pull out, then pulled in in front of the place. While I had my sandwich, and chatted with Summer for a couple of minutes, two wiry guys walked in and orders sandwiches, then left. When I went outside to split myself, they were sitting in their vehicle eating, a shortbed pickup with a trailer, right next to my car - with about 9 inches of clearance between the trailer and my door. No room for me to even get to my door, let alone get in.

SO, I walked up to their truck and asked politely if they were leaving soon. No time ,I was told. So I asked if he could pull up 3-4 feet so I could get into my car. (My Mercedes has bucket seats with a console between them. Getting in from the passenger side was not an easy option.

I was unprepared for the vitriol that came flying out of the window from the driver. The SOB started screaming about how inconsiderate I was parking my small car right where he needed to park given the size of his vehicle with the trailer. How dare I park there, when I had seen him.

Seen him? I had not! We were facing the same direction which means he was behind me and I'm not in the habit of looking behind me when I pull over to my side of the road.

It got worse from there. He started ranting at me; "You may own a Mercedes, but you don't own the road and you don't own me!!" Then he called me a fat pig and screamed I should be eating salads, not a sandwich for lunch - as though what I eat is his concern. He then slammed the car into gear, pulled a U-turn and sped ,off, tires burning rubber.

I stood there slack-jawwed, dumb-founded. I don't imagine he has a terribly pleasant life.

Perhaps he needed to get laid this morning and was told no.

Who knows? This was however, not about me, but about how crappy his day must have been. I was just the convenient outlet to heap his abuse on.

Dude, just remember, what goes around, comes around.
