Have come down with one humdinger of a cold. No voice to speak of (or more appropriately, with) and I'm coughing my head off. I was at the office yesterday, working on paperwork, when one paroxysm left me both breathless and dizzy.

So I came home to work remotely.

Then crashed after dinner.

My bladder just roused me. I think I'm going to take another swig of cough syrup and retire back to my boudoir.

I awoke 15 minutes ago, feeling like the Russian army had been marching thru my mouth for the night. Dry doesn't even begin to describe the sensation. The ensuing coughing and sneezing fit rid me of what felt like a couple of pebbles. Turned out to be dried, inspisated mucous. I looked at my cpap's humidifier. Empty.

When I need it the most. Empty.

I normally look at it nightly, but as we crashed so early last night, I hadn't.

I've been out of bed since a few minutes before 7. A pot of tea and some cereal later I'm feeling somewhat more human. At least my headache is gone and my brain is no longer foggy.

I wish I could say my throat was better. At the moment, it feels like I was gargling with ground glass.

The night was fitful, and punctuated by one strange dream, that I would awake from and then resume when I went back to sleep. I was living back in San Francisco, but this time in one of its grittier sections. Several folks from my LJ friends list were involved & living in this same general area. The central theme was we were preparing a meal in very unsanitary conditions & I kept telling people so. They kept ignoring me.

I finally exclaimed, "Dammit! I'm not eating it!" That's when I finally awoke,

I still wear a watch & this one is very important to me.

After my father died, Mom pulled me aside and gave me my choice of one of his watches. The othe was to go to my brother-in-law. This one was a Longines; the other an Omega. Mom was a bit surprised with my choice, as the Omega was both a more modern watch and the more valuable of the two. She could not dissuade me of my choice. The Omega had been an award from his employer. The Longines had been a gift from my mother's parents to him when they got engaged. He wore it the day they married. For that matter, I wore it to my own wedding.

The original watch band was badly in need of replacement when I first got the watch, but I could only find a XL band locally, which just barely fit. That's what I've been making do with for the last 16 years. It dawned on me last week to look for something on eBay. Below is the result - a smart brown leather band, XXL, embossed to look like crocodile. It's comfortable to wear, not tight, and allows me to wear the watch, not on the last hole.
