An anniversary & a wedding.....
Jul. 21st, 2013 05:21 pmThis has been a fast, but a lovely trip.
Yesterday was both the wedding of my nephew (the younger son of the older of my two sisters), as well as our anniversary. We've flown cross country, for the affair.
The wedding was on an historic farm near Tarrytown, one that boasts a 5 star restaurant. The wedding ceremony was out of doors, sadly in yesterday's brutal heat and humidity, but gratefully it did not rain, at least not until 1 AM, when all were on the chartered busses headed back to the host hotel in NYC. My nephew and his bride opted for plant boys in lieu of flower girls, three younger male cousins of the bride, pulling a red wagon of potted herbs to the outside of the chuppah (wedding canopy) where the rabbi who officiated at my nephew's bar mitzvah a down years ago waited for the wedding couple. My sister and her husband walked Matthew down the aisle, as did Rebecca's charming parents. The bride & groom met 8 years ago as freshman at Yale.
The reception that followed was thankfully indoors in an air conditioned converted farm building, with food that was nothing short of superb, paired thoughtfully with fine wines, portions that were adequate in size and elegantly plated. Service that was both attentive and unabtrusive. Quite the treat. Oh, & we were treated to a surprise medly performed by the Yale Whiffenpoofs, at the end of the Father of the Bride's toast. This wedding was mostly of Peter's doing. From the design of the invitation, to the selection of the venue, the meal and the wine, his mark was on this wedding. The desires of the young couple were noted and I believe respected, but from what I could tell, everyone else was along for the ride, and a lovely ride it was.
As I write this, Matt and Becca should be on their way to Spainand then on to France, for their honeymoon, and as soon as they return they move to Philly. Becca will be law clerking for a federal judge for the next year, and Matt starts his MBA at Wharton right after they return. He recieved his acceptance just last week.
Off to our gate, they've just announced our boarding. We should be home by midnight, our time.
