I'm tired. With all the work of packing, sorting, tossing, etcétera, I'm entitled to be. After running several errands in Santa Rosa this afternoon, I hit the gym in hopes of treating myself to a nice hot soak in the spa, prior to resuming the process, only to find the tub closed for repairs.

Damn. Not what I needed.

Add to the whole mess, the washing machine appears to have died. I'm finding tons of things that are needing to be washed before they're packed because they're either musty or worse, mildewy. We live in a bloody redwood rain forest. Anything that sits for any length of time, gets damp at some point. It's just the reality of living here. Once the rains starts, I have to fire up the dehumidifiers. Fortunately, there's a second washer down in the tenant's cottage just down the hill from the house, so I don't have to haul into Guerneville to the laundromat. It's still a pain in butt hiking down & up the hill to get things washed. I particularly dislike hauling wet wash back up to the house. The dryer down at the cottage doesn't always turn off.

My husband's gone for the weekend; he had a meeting down near Santa Cruz. That made it a good time to address the tall dresser next to his desk. At least half of the contents of it will disappear. Tonight I made it halfway through it, emptying three of the five drawers. I'll shoot to finish the job tomorrow. I've got a small box of trash, a huge box of donations, a small box of stuff to sell, & a moderate box of stuff I think I'm gonna keep, but I'm going to sleep on those things tonight & re-evaluate them in the morning. What's left in the dresser are a drawer and a half of sweaters, mostly cotton and most of which are being kept, and 1/2 of the top drawer, which is mostly junk to toss.

After Rachel Maddow was on, I simply couldn't listen to the talking heads on the tube any longer, opining over Hillary vs. the Trump monster, I did a little channel surfing, finally stopping on some food porn - The Holiday Baking Championship on the cooking channel. T'was interesting to watch, oddly so, as there wasn't a single thing made I could safely eat. (That was until the final where one contestant chose to include classic French macaron as part of his finale.). My decision to watch this might seem an odd choice for someone like me who cannot consume wheat. I certainly couldn't be asked to judge the competition, but it was intriguing to watch. I've done very little baking since my own diagnosis; I'm only a novice at gluten free baking. Somehow, my own situation kinda reminded me of a Chopped competition I saw last year, involving a contestant, a practicing Muslim woman who's also a professional, culinary school trained chef, who was preparing food she couldn't even taste to check her seasoning. How's that for one hand tied behind your back!

And don't you know, she was the winning competitor!

Time for bed...
