Quote of the day.....
Dec. 23rd, 2007 08:50 pmYesterday, I stood in line at the market chatting with a friend, who unfortunately has seen easier times; he's been unable to find work because of a bum hip. Few employers seem willing to take on a young man using a cane these days.
As we spoke the man in front of him was trying to pay for a handful of groceries with his food stamps card, only to have the machine reject it, repeatedly. Apparently not enough funds on it to cover the few items he was trying to purchase. He was about to give up and leave, when someone mercifully swept in and paid for the order. He offered to pay the person back, only to be told, "No need, please enjoy. For Christ's sake, it's X-mas."
In the spirit of the season, I offer a quote from Francis Balfour (1851-1882), British Biologist and proponent of Darwin:
"The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to your father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity."
