It's been a lovely day.

I awoke at 7am, a bit groggy and as I sat at the side of the bed, I realized as I wiped the sleep from my eyes it's the 1st of April.

My birthday.

It's not like I hadn't been thinking about it last night. My husband left a pile of gift wrapped packages on my side of the bed last night. I opened one of them last night (a small brass Ganesh pendant) and left the remainder for today. We cuddled and I drifted off to sleep.

This morning while brushing my teeth, I decided it would be a good morning for a walk, to skip breakfast, and join Weight Watchers when I got to work. Nothing like your birthday winding its way around the calendar to do a re-eval of where you are.

Well, I stopped to get coffee on my way into town and was greeted by my friend and coffee barista, Sarah. "Weaver! Happy birthday! Sit down, I made you breakfast!" (Hmm and you thought you were starting a diet today!) Whole grain organic bread toasted to perfection, housing scrambled eggs and provolone. So nice of her and so caring. My lovely little organic barista.

I headed from there to the hospital to send a patient home - a stop that took and hour and a half to complete, between notifying her family, her assisted living center, calling in medications and doing a discharge summary. I finally got the my office at 11. Now granted, it was supposed to be a paperwork day, but it would be nice if I actually got a load of paperwork done.

45 minutes after I got to work, my office staff whisked me out of my office to one of the best Japanese restaurants north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Raw fish. What more could a bear want to eat? A little hot sake, and surprise the boss with some thoughtful gifts. Our receptionist gave me a gift certificate to a local yarn supplier. Now I ask you, [livejournal.com profile] madknits and [livejournal.com profile] ogambear does she have my number or what? And there was a small ivory bear for this not so small redbear. My office manager managed to find an old ivory bear that dates back from likely the 20's if not earlier.

Then back to the office where I had a couple of emergencies to see. At 3:30 I finally got down to get some paperwork done and at 5 my husband called. Come meet us at another Japanese restaurant. Your godchildren and I are taking you to dinner for your birthday. More raw fish - pinch me. Then off to Coldstone Creamery (at least we walked from the restaurant) where they plied me with dark chocolate ice cream laced with bittersweet chocolate chips. Hence the chocolate coma.

Time for bed.

Sigh.

Tomorrow, Weight Watchers.
