Over the lunch break I delved into a bit idle web surfing and was rather surprised when I came across this: http://www.shema-israel.com/?gclid=COu26p3i0ZICFRGYggodWka3HA

Now I understand the importance of a holy site to some folks; The Wailing Wall is supposed to be the holiest of holy sites within Judaism. I'm sure there are folks who'll find some comfort in having someone deliver a prayer by proxy for them at the wall.

However there's a part of me sitting here shaking my head. What's next?

Rental pilgrim to make the Hajj for an observant Muslim who can't travel to Mecca?

Proxy Catholics to bathe in the waters at Lourdes for you?

There are two sayings common amongst Quakers that are resonating with me right this moment:

"Whenever two or more are gathered in his name, he is there."

"The letter of the law killeth, but the Spirit giveth life."

I could not help but respond to your post. I've seen that service before and found it very interesting (yet strange). I asked my Lubavitch Rabbi about it once and he said it seemed rather odd and would not do it. The Kotel is a very holy place, but G-d hears prayers anywhere. I don't think it would be wrong, as prayers are extra special when delivered at the Kotel, but I am not sure of the method of transmission. I just e-mailed my Rabbi to find out if there are even halacha behind it.

I'll update you when I find out!!! :-)
