This morning while I sat having tea in the sitting room, listening to the news of the morning, I heard the news that our State Supreme Court has overturned the ban on same-gender marriage.

It had been misreported a few minutes earlier that the ban had been upheld; with the corrected announcement I nearly dropped my teacup.

I asked LJ if it now meant that as registered domestic partners, we were now married.

He said, "No, we're registered domestic partners."
I asked, "Do you want to get married?"
He said, "I thought you'd never ask."

Then he said yes.

So now, as we near 27 years together and nearly 5 as RDP's, I guess we've graduated to fiancees.

Does it change anything?
Perhaps, perhaps not. But when he said yes, I somewhat unexpectedly began to cry. In ways that surprise me, I'm feeling validated.
