Sunsets........

I lived in Miami for a few months back in the late 70's. On weekends, when time permitted I would take the drive down to the Keys and whenever possible watch the sunset on Duval St. in Key West.
People would gather at the dock, some beating on drums, some selling tie dyes and other crafts, some just smoking weed, and all would grow hushed for the 5 minutes or so it took for the sun to kiss the Caribean on the western horizon, then sink below its surface. Almost without exception the crown would then break into applause, then slowly disperse and wander away.
Sunset in Maui is very similar, though few seem to be wearing tie-dye any more and nobody seems to applaud. More than once I heard a conch shell trumpet blast at sunset in the distance, as people gather at the beaches in Kihei as the sun sinks into the sea. Below are sunsets for a couple of different days taken at Kamaole I, Kamaole II and Cove Parks along the Kihei shoreline.

Tomorrow: The trip home and what I wished we'd been able to do and see, but did not.....
