It's the first of July and as I drove in this morning I began to feel a little overwhelmed.
I'm actually getting married.
We've not yet worked out all of the details, other than we plan to say 'I do'. For example we still haven't decided whether to go thru Meeting or not. I'm still working too many hours and when I get home we eat and then hit the hay. There is stuff to be discussed and agreed upon, that we've just started to touch on.
Oh my G-d. I'm actually getting married.
We tentatively mentioned the third Sunday of this month, which is the anniversary of the day we met in 1981. The actual date is July 19th, which would be the 3rd Saturday. We mentioned getting married in our gazebo out back up the hill from the house. It would accomodate 40 to 50 people without trouble. We could have a Meeting for Worship out there. But the Gazebo would also be a good place to set up food for after the wedding. The idea of a chupa in the grove in front of the gazebo has some appeal; The best woman, the man of honor, and our witnesses could drape it around us at the end of the cermony.
OMG! I'm actually getting married.
What to wear? Simple. I want simple. I ordered a linen long sleeve guayabera this morning. Light beige. After 26 plus years, white would be tacky. Besides, I cannot keep white clean more than 17 seconds. Perhaps, we'll both wear guayaberas. I've gotten him enough of them.
OMG! I'm actually getting married.
Food? Who'll prepare it? Invitations? Who to invite? Is it tacky to do a potluck wedding if we don't go thru Meeting? If we don't go thru Meeting, who to officiate? Ruth offered, and I'd love to have her do it, but she's been out of town for the past two weeks and I don't know if she's available the 19th or the 20th.
OMG!! I'm actually getting married.
At least we don't have to worry about rings. We've had those for years. However, the reality that he is finally going to be the one that puts that ring on my finger, fills my heart with joy. My eyes are starting to well up at the thought.
Ani ledodi v'dodi li - I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine.
