Associations: the saga continues
Feb. 20th, 2009 07:18 pmComment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.
OR
Comment with five things you associate with me, and I'll expound on them in my journal.
eireangus associates these 5 things with me:
1) Warm spirit. I just blushed. Seriously blushed. Thank you, David.
I have never been a particularly cold person. I engage. It's my nature as an ENFP for you MBTI folks out there. I feel and am so far out on the feeling-thinking continuum, that its a signiture trait for me.
2) Medicine and bringing new life into the world. I would rather deliver a baby than eat, than sleep, or even have sex. (Don't tell my husband, although I suspect he already knows!) It's up there in the sacred trust category.
And it's a priviledge.
3) Sefardim. The lion's share of the American Jewish population are Ashkenazi; many not of Jewish background, and oddly, even many who are, remain unaware of any Jewish tradition that florished anywhere other than eastern or central Europe. The think of Yiddish speakers, and stereotypic characters from Fiddler on the Roof, with platters of bagels and lox, gefitle fish, and Matzo ball soup fragrant in the air before lying heavy in the stomach. The think of NY's lower east side, and a community that predominantly arrived here in the early days of the last century.
Well, not all of us. The variety of folks who called the shores of the Mediterranian home, from Seville and Morocco to Persia and Istanbul and all the places in between. Ladino was the language, which was to Spanish, what Yiddish was to German. The cuisine was different from that in Eastern Europe as were some social conventions. My roots trace to Turkey, I believe, where the Ottomans threw open the doors of welcome, when Spain told us to take a hike. ("You're emptying out your Universities? We'll take them!")
4) Hair. I have a lot of it, don't I?
I had longer hair in college, and cut it when I applied to med school. I missed it and in the early 90's decided to grow it back. Don't think I've even trimmed it in over a decade.
5) Devoted. To a lot of things. My husband. My marriage. My practice. My friends. My community. The Environment. Civil Rights. Social Justice. (Was this what you were referring to David?)
