A momentous morning........
Aug. 15th, 2004 04:34 pmWell it finally happened. For the very first time, I delivered a child, to a child I delivered.
Rocio is 17, married just over a year and as of 3 hours ago, a new mother. Her son is nothing short of gorgeous. A healthy, bouncing (or so the cliche goes) baby boy of 7 and a half pounds. (I wonder just how that cliche got started. Bouncing a baby somehow just doesn't sound like a good idea!) I'm tired, having been awakened half a dozen times last night, or so it seemed, but I am elated, and yet, at the same time subdued. I have something in common with this new born. I too was delivered by the same doc that delivered my mom. I was his very last delivery while Mom was one of his first. Right this second, I'm feeling somewhat old. (and I am way too young to feel somewhat old!)
This little boy was not the only delivery of the morning. Another little girl preceeded him by an hour, also her mother's first. AND lord be praised, also healthy. All and all a morning to be grateful for, both to God for all his kindness in gifting these families with healthy little ones, both of whom are very much wanted, and to the families themselves, who placed their trust in me to safely shepherd them through this birthing process. The glory of witnessing, assisting and greeting new life into this world is a ajoy like no other.
And to these two little ones, Shayla and the little boy who is as yet un-named (his mom whas sure it was going to be a girl), "Bienvenidos, mijos! Mucho gusto!"
