I lifted this from Aadroma's LJ. There remains a kernel of truth from which any stereotype springs; thinking of them as socio-cultural norms removes some of the stigma of the concept of stereotypic behaviour or appearance. All of us fit in some ways to groups which we belong to, while varying in others.

For myself, as a gay man (even a 'bear-identified' gay man), I do have a sense of style. I know what colors, textures and fabrics look good together, and more importantly what looks good on me.

Though I have a shock of red hair, it does not make me even remotely Irish. Yes, my great-grandfather came from Scotland, but his family were Sephardic Jews who'd fled north, not Celts.

Name one way in which you fit a stereotype to a particular group you find yourself in -- grouped by religion, race, sexual orientation, nationality, or anything else. And then name one stereotype that doesn't fit you at all.
