The days fly by....
Nov. 18th, 2010 03:05 amI'm still sort of realling. Call weekends (such as the one I had last weekend) truly take the wind out of my sails. They become an extention of my work week as there really isn't any time off for good behaviour (or bad fo that matter). Add to that deliveries have begun again in earnest. I went 6 very peaceful months without welcoming any new life into the world. I've been averaging roughly 40 births a year for the last decade. Thanks in large part to the economy last year, that came to a grinding halt late last March. Nothing, zilch, nada.
I had very mixed emotions about it. On one hand a night of uninterrupted sleep is something I could very much get used to. Theopportunity ability to pour myself two fingers of a single malt occasionally, if I so choose is also pleasant. However, catching babies keeps me alive. It's a joyful privilege .
Tonight however, I'm paying the price for that joy. This was my second delivery this week. Mother and son are doing well (amen) , but it kept me away from home this evening until an hour ago, on the last night before my husband departs for a week to visit my mother-in-law back east. Further, despite being dog tired, I'm too keyed up to sleep.
Time to get horizontal. To sleep, perchance to dream. If not, at least I'll be next to my husband, whom I miss already.
At least I'll be able to sleep in tomorrow morning.
