They brought little Skyler in to me today for his 12 month old physical. He turned a year old two weeks ago. While assessing his vision, I covered his left eye and tried to get him to follow with his right, and like many little kids his age, he didn't particularly like my doing that. He tried moving around my hand, which didn't work, and then pulling it down with his, which also didn't work, at which time he looked at me and distinctly said, "knock it off!"

I dropped my hand, furrowed my brow and just looked at him in disbelief. "Did I just hear that?"

Skyler started to giggle. So did his grandmother great-grandmother.

While it's not that unusual for a-year-old child to start speaking, it's generally just a handful of words, and not more than one at a time. This little guy is already putting together two and three word sentences at 12 months of age, and quite clearly, he's using them appropriately.

I have a sneaking suspicion we're going to have our hands full with this kid.
