Nov. 29th, 2012

As we flew back from the east coast last Saturday, I spent some time reflecting and writing on gratitude and what I'm grateful for, standard for me at the Thanksgiving season. I'm not sure the piece is finished; when it is, I'll probably post it here.

This morning, I saw something on MSNBC that renews my faith in people and the noble things they can be capable of, those random acts of kindness one sees touted on bumper-stickers. Someone posted a cellphone capture of an NYC cop giving a pair of boots to a barefoot homeless man on the street. Seems the cop saw the man in the cold with nothing on his feet, went into a shoe store and purchased the boots for him. It would have gone unsung, had it not been for a passerby capturing it on his cell.

I'm not yet cynical enough to think this was a PR setup, but rather a modern day good Samaritan just doing the right thing. Made me misty and reaffirms there is still good in the world.

It's Nov 29th. The clock sitting on my desk is ticking. This is one of those days when I regret giving up chewing on my fingernails.

Tomorrow, SCOTUS has 10 cases related to marriage equality on their laundry list of cases to decide whether to hear or not. They may announce tomorrow afternoon, they may announce Monday, they may put off the decision to hear or not to another conference date down the line.

My gut is in knots, even though my brain thinks otherwise.

What I want is have them agree to hear some of the DOMA cases, as I think they're winnable, and to decline to hear the Prop 8 appeal - and I want that information now, not tomorrow, not Monday. (Like that's going to happen.

I've been waiting since the day after election day in 2008. I suppose another 4 days isn't going to kill me.
