As promised, the orchid that lives on my deck.

Birthday gifts last weekend from the Bay Area's Gay Gardeners group included:

these two thornless boysenberries (yum)

and these 6 fig cuttings, that so far seem happy where they are. The tree they came from in Marin, came from a cutting from a tree right in Santa Rosa, so they should do alright here back in Sonoma County. (knock wood)

I'm not absolutely sure of the senate total, but I think it's now 53. Sens. Bill Nelson (D-Fl), Heidi Heitcamp (D-ND), and Joe Donnelly (D-In) have all announced their support for marriage equality.

That leaves, Joe Manchin of WV, Tim Johnson of SD, Mary Landieu of La, and Mark Pryor of Ark, and 43 of the 45 Republicans in the Senate on the side of inequality.

Uruguay, Britain and France appear to be on the precipice of enacting marriage equality, and the shoe is likely to fall in Illinois, Rhode Island and Delaware this spring.

Somebody, pinch me. I feel almost mainstream.

I'm surrounded often by millennials, a good thing I think.

My NP student (27), my favorite detail rep (31) and I had lunch yesterday to discuss new treatments for diabetes that are coming down the pike. DM and it's treatment is something I'm passionate about as well as something I spend a lot of time doing.

Whenever Jonathan is over we often spend as much time on politics as medicine; midway through lunch he turned and asked, "so, what do you think the Supreme Court is gonna do?" I'm not sure he was quite ready for my detailed take on the matter, but as most of you who follow me here already know, it's something else I'm PDP (pretty damned passionate) about.

Both of them (Jonathan & Ana), are still amazed that it's been such a struggle for marital rights for same gender couples. (Ah, the innocence of youth...) Neither of them get what the big deal is for any loving couple to have the right to marry and have a family. As millenials, they've both grown up with open queerfolk they've known personally, not to mention publicly known role models in the media. For them, lesbians and gay men are not some abstract 'bogey men' to be feared. We're concrete people they know, or at least know of. (Did I mention they're both Hispanic?)

Amen for the passage of time.
