Stranded....
Dec. 15th, 2016 02:43 pmIt's pouring today.
Initially I had planned on staying home and packing for the move. Friday I was going back into town with plans for a run at the gym, plus picking up the tile if ordered for the repair of the kitchen floor. However, the tile came in early and so change in plans.
Parts of the Bay Area are prone to flash flooding. As I left the tile place, KQED on the radio, the warning alert from the national weather service came on warning about flash floods in low lying areas of the county. Santa Rosa did not get mentioned specifically while other areas did. Time on the warning was through 5pm. It was 1/2 past 12.
I decided a run at the gym followed by a movie in town sounded a good way to spend the afternoon, before trying the roads for home which would take me into low lying areas. Well I turned off of Cleveland 1/2 block from the gym right into flood water 1/4 way up my door, and promptly stalled out. Had I opened my door the whole floor of the car would have flooded. I was on the phone to AAA when two guys in a raised up pickup stopped and pushed me out of the street into the Kmart parking lot. I'm now stranded on a high spot in the lot on dry land surrounded by knee high water all around this small island.
My car won't start yet, but even if it did, I can't go anywhere but right back into knee deep water. Looks like I'm going to be here for a while, at least until the water recedes.
