hurry up and wait.......
Apr. 24th, 2004 11:29 pmI could be sleeping. Instead I'm sitting here at my computer waiting for the other shoe to drop. I have an absolutely lovely lady in early labor, an induced labor I might add, who is going nowhere quickly and so I wait, listening to the clock tick and not doing the things I would rather be doing at the moment. Like sleeping.
It isn't that I don't love assisting this woman. I do. It's an honor, a joy and a privilege. However, I wanted to be doing this over 12 hours ago when I was fresh and well rested. However, there was no room at the inn, so to speak and this lovely lady had the temerity to show up for her induction without her portable manger.
Home is on the other side of the county half an hour away. If I drive home to wait, it's an near absolute guarantee she will blast into booming labor and I will be faced with a mad dash to get there. So I sit and listen the the clock tick and the IVAC pump slowly dispense her Pitocin a few miliunits at a time to stimulate this process along. She wants this process over with. Can't say that I blame her - so do I. Like 10 hours ago.
