As I was driving in Santa Rosa yesterday NPR was doing a piece on regional idiosyncrasies within American English. Having lived in a few different parts of the country, I've always been amused by regionalisms. I remember thinking, "WTF are you talking about," when a friend in Boston asked where the bubbler was when we were shopping at Filene's. (It's pronounced bubblah btw.)

So, I was amused to hear a commentator on MSNBC call Newt Gingrich a hot mess. I had not heard the term before. I thought about it for a bit, and then googled the term. Exactly what I thought it would mean.

Well, I don't know. Some dudes would say playing around with me left them in a "hot mess."

Really? A hot mess is something my daughter has said for years.

"When ones thoughts or appearance are in a state of disarray but they maintain an undeniable attractiveness or beauty."

Newt does not maintain any attractiveness of any kind ...

Everything here in Tennessee is a hot mess. :) And they don't mean clothing. It's similar to " You're just not right".
