About a year ago, I picked up the carcass of a high-end, stainless steel Miu kitchen mandoline. Great condition, but no accessories and sadly, no blades. I looked on-line when I got it, but didn't see a listing for parts anywhere that would ship to the USA. Miu is a French company & made in Europe.

My model is the one at the bottom, the 90767

I have a poor facsimile, heavy weight plastic with a somewhat dull blade, that I've used for years mostly on mushrooms, all the while thinking I really need to hunt the web for at least a couple of blades for the Miu. Well, I finally did a search last week. I found nothing on eBay or Amazon, that was anything less than a complete Miu set, and most of them were not the top of the line. However, there's a supplier now in the Pacific Northwest that carries Miu's parts and so, after debating with myself, I splurged.

It all arrived today, and they put in more than I had ordered - more than I had paid for. I have a complete set of the julienne blades, including a 2nd 10mm, a crinkle cut blade and 3 straight blades (I'd ordered only 2). I got a pair of blade cases; each holds 5 blades, I ordered 6 and they sent 8 total. I also got a 'food pusher' to same my fingers, and a larger case to hold everything, including the mandolin carcass itself.

I'd originally planned to get 4 blades, but as I thought about it, the blade cases will keep the blades from getting damaged or lost, so they went onto the list. However, when I went to pay, there was a $20 shipping and handling charge, which put me off. After a day of thinking about it, reminding myself there's no sales tax to pay, I logged back on to make the purchase, only then noticed the 'food pusher'. It was another $15, but if it saves me from 'julienning' my fingers just once, it'll be money well spent.

The food pusher runs in a track on the Miu, and keeps your fingers away from anything sharp. Over the years I've managed to cut my nails several times on mandolines, barely missing flesh. This device will hold a good size onion or tomato and will allow for making fast work of either.

After adding the pusher to my list, and thinking about dulled blades, a second straight blade made sense to me, which brought my total to within $30 of eliminating the $20 s&h charge, so I splurged and got the whole magilla.

Time to go home and cook. I see a cole slaw for the 4th of July.
