Another milestone?
Mar. 25th, 2014 01:04 pmI’ve posted before that clothing for larger men is often extremely variable. The size marked is not necessarily the size it is. That said, for the first time in I can’t think of how long, I’m wearing a pair of jeans that are labeled 44. To me this is significant because they came from Costco, and Costco doesn’t sell anything larger than a 44.
I’m pretty well wearing 46s in things like Dockers, or anything labeled Land’s End, but on some very base level that the label on this pair of pants says 44 is an ‘oh yes!’ moment. Yesterday morning was another mini milestone. I’ve had a cotton broadcloth shirt hanging in the side of the closet where I would see it every time I walked in. It’s an 18½ X 35 also from Land’s End (big surprise). It’s been there as inspiration/motivation. When I last tried it on in mid-January, I couldn’t close the buttons. It’s a really beautiful blue and green plaid (with some white and just a touch of yellow) and it was always a shirt that I really enjoyed wearing. Hmmm, red hair, blue green eyes, blue and green plaid shirt – go figure. Well, I wore it yesterday. It fits perfectly. I can even sit down in it comfortably.
These mini milestones have been really helpful recently, as I’ve been on a plateau for about two weeks. They really reaffirm that changes are happening. Plateaus are a normal occurrence in anyone undergoing an enormous weight loss and while I intellectually know that, it doesn’t mean enduring them are easy. I’ve been somewhat aware that even though the scale members aren’t going down, that that's often when I seem to be changing size wise. It’s almost like I’m at some sort of re-equilibrium point, where the body just has to shift and adjust before the numbers on the scale will start dropping again.
In any event, I had no choice but to take things as they come, and to keep on keeping on. As long as I continue to do the lifestyle management, over time the scale & the clothing sizes will continue south and in reality, take care of themselves.
