With the court cases now coming so fast and furious, in what seems like everywhere, it's hard to keep current with everything that's happening. Today in Denver, there was a three judge panel of the 10th circuit of the Federal Appellate Court, hearing the appeal of the Utah decision from last December. The same panel will hear the appeal of the Oklahoma decision from mid January next week.

It's not clear how long it will be before the opinions are rendered, but if the tenor of the questioning is any guide, I suspect they will uphold Shelby's ruling in Kitchen v. Herbert (Utah). Only time will tell.

Much more is brewing, but I can help but think we're nearing the end game and sooner than I had every expected. I can't imagine we won't be back in front of the Supreme Court again either this coming session ('14-'15) or the one thereafter. The only question is which case will get us there. (Virginia? Michigan? Utah? Texas? Kentucky? Tennessee? Wyoming?)

Meanwhile, the very first same sex couples to marry in the US will celebrate their 10th anniversary the middle of next month. (5-17) I hope and suspect all same sex couples in this country will have the same right before they celebrate by the time most are celebrating their 12th. Given that it was 189 years from the first interracial marriages in Pennsylvania till the final decision in Loving, this is one social change that's moving at lightening speed, and not glacial.
