Amen for eBay!

So my feet are a bloody huge pain in the butt. (Truth is they're just plain bloody huge, pure and simple.) When I started exercising 6 months ago I went to see the podiatrist next door. With my arthritis in remission I started walking everywhere, and in short order my feet had blisters everywhere. There were blisters on the blisters. Shoes that were now comfortable to stand in and walk about the office, were not so great for 3-4 mile hikes. He in turn steered me to Fleet Feet, and they put me in a pair of Brooks running shoes.

My feet are pancake flat, long and wide, to the tune of a 14 EEEE in the running shoes. The podiatrist had recommended 3 models of Brooks in the following order - the Beast, the Addiction, and the Adrenaline. They didn't have the Beasts in my size, but they did have the Addiction which I've been using to either walk, or run on the elliptical ever since. They told me I should get 500-600 miles out of them and then should replace them. Cheap SOB that I am, I have not been using them for every day wear. My Addictions currently have almost 300 miles on them and are going strong. They've been a Godsend of comfort. At $130 (plus tax), they had damned well better be. They've been saving my feet and also doing good things for my weight bearing joints, some of which were already damaged by my longstanding inflammatory arthritis, now in remission.

I had set up a search on ebay a while back to watch for another pair of Brooks in my size. A pair of Beasts in my size in very good repair came up last week, and they're now on my feet. There is a tiny amount of wear on them, but easily I should get at least 400 miles out of these, if not more, and at $44 instead of $140 plus tax, I think I'm way ahead of the game with this pair.

Gotta go. It's time to go take a hike!
