Hurting.........

I'm hurting.

I'm ticked, both at myself & at the restaurant. Worse, I feel dumb, because I wasn't vigilant enough & now I'm paying the price for it.

I had dinner tonight with a good friend, here from Mexico City for the weekend. I chose the venue; I felt it was 'safe'. I'd eaten here 2-3 times in the past year & had done ok. They had a gluten free menu.

My gluten free Mediterranean platter came with a serving of tabooleh & I didn't recognize it. About midway thru eating it, it dawned on me it might be wheat and I stopped eating immediately. Too late, I'm afraid. My gut is now cramping. Worse, my right ankle and knee have started to flare.

I made it clear I was ordering from the gluten free menu. I told her I have celiac disease. I reminded her when she served me I wanted the blue corn tortillas & not the pita. Then she served me tabooleh.

And I put the stuff in my mouth and swallowed. I was complicit in my own poisoning! Why the fuck was I not my wary and observant?!? I'm paying for it now.

It's gonna be a long day tomorrow. And I have a long night in front of me, I'm afraid.

Ugh... sorry to hear this.

If it wasn't 100% absolutely certain before ... it is now.

Here's hoping the effects fade quickly....

Well it's Sunday and the effects are now fading as I had expected they likely would. And yup, it's been aptly proven to me I cannot consume wheat, so if I had any questions before, they've now been answered. Apparently, I glossed over my GI side effects before, because damn, was I ever miserable from my gut & not just my joints.
