Mid afternoon yesterday I was in the local organic grocery near the house. At the cash register, a woman my age was chatting with the clerk.

Woman: "Did you hear about Bob Dylan?"
Clerk: "You mean the Pulitzer Prize?"
Woman: "Yes, it's amazing isn't it, but it was the Nobel prize for music!"
Clerk: "well, it's so deserved. He was the voice of a generation!" (This from a young man no older than his early 20s.)

I shook my head and corrected the two of them. "Excuse me for interrupting but it was the Nobel prize for literature that Dylan won this morning."

The woman proceeded to argue with me that he had won a Nobel Prize for music. I interjected, "well, he may have been awarded the Nobel prize for literature because of his music, or more likely the cause of his poetic lyrics, but there is no Nobel prize for music per se."
