Good news and not so good...
May. 6th, 2018 12:12 amWe’re nearing completion of remodeling for now. More to do? Oh yeah, but sale of our old property isn’t likely this year thanks to another landslide affecting the only road into our place. Until it’s fixed, well we need to keep things more modest. My husband has turned his attention to getting the house exterior painted and to smaller projects like the fixing the extension to the grape arbor. I’ve accepted that the living room floor will remain unfinished for now. It’s low on his priority list and he’s right. There are more pressing things to get done. We can live with it for now.
Now that the solarium build is done, it’s time to furnish that space and finally get the living room end of the living/dining room converted into an inviting space to spend time in.
There are two boxy chairs I reupholstered myself 20 years ago. The upholstery held up reasonably, but when Arjuna decided they were his chairs to curl up in, it was only a matter of time before they looked lousy. This is country property and the canine is in and out 25 times a day. He’s always dusty, if not straight out muddy much if the time plus he sheds a chihuahua daily. Did I mention he hates being brushed? Honestly, the leather easy chair is the only thing that’s still nice looking seating.
LJ’s been after me to do something about furniture. It only became clear to me he wants me to take the lead. So I’ve lead.
The two chairs Arjuna has trashed are going into the solarium. I doubt the dog will spend much time there, so I will rent a stream carpet cleaner with a furniture attachment to see just how clean I can get the chairs. I can recover them if needed, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. The fabric still appears not terribly worn- just dirty/dusty and covered in shedded fur.
Seeing that the leather chair has withstood Arjuna well, I set out on Craig’s List to look for nice leather seating. Yesterday I set out to look at two things I’d found (the first a loveseat, the second as sectional couch with a chaise, and decided after looking at them they were well worth the purchase. Unfortunately, they were both in Marin County. It’s only a 2 1/2 drive. Each way.
Then there’s the logistics of getting them back to our place. I made several phone calls. The friend with the trailer who’s helped out on the past is more than happy to let me borrow it. Sadly his car’s in the shop and it’s the only vehicle he has that’s capable of as well as equipped for towing. I checked with another old friend to see if I could use her suv to tie. No problem.
So I was going to make the journey Friday morning. Drive an hour north and west to Ukiah to meet my friend at her workplace, leave her my car, take the suv and drive an hour & 15 south to Sebastopol, hook up the trailer and drive another hour to Novato, to meet the loveseat’s owner at his work place and snag the item from his pickup, and then head over to load the sectional into the trailer. Then drive directly to our place at the lake, unload, then turn around and drive back to Sebastopol to return the trailer and then bake to Ukiah to return the suv by 5.
Where’s a teleporter when you need one?
Well, in my way home last night, the dashboard flashed me an ominous warning about my hybrid battery Cooling system needing urgent maintenance. I called first thing this morning to set up a visit for urgently dealing with the cry for service. The scheduler tried putting me off till next week but I wasn’t having it. I pushed for today and got it.
To be continued....
