Mom enters the world of text....
Dec. 14th, 2007 07:18 pmI was at my desk earlier when my phone buzzed alerting me to an incoming text. It was from mom. My mother!
We'd been talking earlier this week cell to cell no less, and mom was belly aching about my sister pushing her into a cell plan that included text messaging. Mom had no idea how to send a text and even more frustrating for her was not knowing how to pick up one after her phone had signalled a text's arrival.
Mom is not the most tech savvy of folks. When I asked her what kind of cell she has, so I could then check it out on line and try and walk her thru opening a text, she couldn't tell me the make and number of her phone. That little exercize lasted 15 minutes.
Anyway, fast forward to today. My phone buzzes and the text message reads "Susans gift arrived. Was in todays mail. Mom" (This is my gift to my sister for her 50th birthday, The surprise party is tomorrow, in NYC.)
I texted back "Cool."
And a moment later, I texted again. "You sent me a text message? YOU?? Alright, who are you and what have you done with my mother?"
Mom called back shortly there after, giggling. My youngest sister had been sitting with her and had walked her thought sending a text when the initial one was sent. While mom is now proficient at opening them, remembering how to send text messages is still going to take a bit longer.
I wonder if blogging is next?
