Aug. 28th, 2010 11:03 pmI watched MLK deliver his "I have a dream…" speech on tv when I was 8. My husband (then 11) was actually there. While I'll defend Glenn Beck's 1st amendment right to free speech, it chaps my ass bigtime to see him try to appropriate Dr. King's legacy. That he seems to have befriended (& perverted) King's niece to his neocon pseudo-religious cause absolutely sickens me.
Beck and his ilk (Fox/Rupert Murdock/Sarah Palin/Sharon Angle/Marco Rubio) scare the crap out of me; their rabble rousing panders to the worst in us. Listening to their anti-Muslim ranting, anti-immigrant scapegoating whips fear and blame into those who see their own status in this country waning. I feel for the many Muslim emigrants in the US who after years in this country find themselves targets for blame. They are no more to blame for this nations problems than any other minority, but far be it for the American majority to actually look at itself and the policies our previous administrations have carried out throughout the world for spawning some of the hatred/disgust this nation has engendered.
