It's Monday. It's April 1. It's m'birthday.

One friend called yesterday morning from Atlanta at 7am, to sing me Happy Birthday. He then asked how often my birthday falls out on Easter Sunday. I said I didn't know off-hand, but mentioned I was born on Good Friday, as well as the first day of Passover. I didn't have the heart to tell him he was a day early. I also just wanted to go back to sleep.

I have an orchid on the deck I got as a gift a decade ago. One of the RN's I'd known for 20 years was retiring and she raised orchids for a hobby. This one is native to our climate and was quite happy to be left out on the deck. It sat not doing much, other than the rare new leaf for 5 years and then 2 weeks prior to our wedding, put out its first flower spike. The blossoms opened just in time for our wedding. It's put out one other spike two years thereafter, and I noted on Saturday there are two flower spikes now up, each one packed with buds (as in 16 on one and 20 on the other!). The color of this flower is unusual - sort of a bronze color with hints of mauve. I'm looking forward to seeing them in the months to come. The photo below is from the day of our wedding.

There are a ton of well wishes on Facebook, a place I never go, and many well wishes from folks here on LJ. A call from Mom, another from my youngest sister, an email from my older sister (who is still younger than I, but older than the one who called). Oh yeah, a My staff took me out to sushi at lunch. Nothing says happy birthday than a hot bowl of miso and a Utah roll.

I'm very fortunate to want for very little, not that I'm financially wealthy, but my desires are simple and LJ and I have been able to meet them.

I've been watching for pens that I can personally repair and make functional again. There's something I find particularly satisfying about resurrecting things from a bygone past, things that were both well designed and not intended to be disposable. Moreover, the act of writing is a sensual experience for me, and using a ball point just doesn't cut it.

My staff took me to lunch today; Japanese at Osake, one of my favorite places in the area. A bowl of miso soup, and one Utah roll later (a shrimp tempura maki, topped with crab and ahi) we headed back for the office and I ran next door for Sarah's sonogram. When I came back over this had arrived:

I believe this was called the Sheaffer Imperial. This one dates from the early to mid 70's, is gold filled and a cartridge filler, with an converter for bottled ink use. It's in absolutely pristine condition. In the background is an orchid that come from Sarah for my birthday, a hearty phalaenopsis 2 flower stalks, 5 open blooms and a ton of buds.

He's just gone downstairs to fetch dessert.

I came home from work this evening to find my husband, randy boy he is, well horned & ready to rumble.

And rumble we did.

He left me in my afterglow, & went about preparing dinner. (that's right, you heard me correctly. My husband preparing dinner!)
Thirty minutes later, he returns to say dinner is ready, upstairs. In the great room. I slid into my shoes & a robe & trundled up the spiral stairs, to find the great room ablaze with candles! Dinner was already set on the table; he'd brought a gorgeous baked salmon home, served with a crab cake, grilled asparagus dressed in aioli, and a latered polenta torta.

There are flowers on the table!!! Succulent yellow irises framed by small blue spider mums. Simple & simply gorgeous. Squee!!

He coming back upstairs; more later.
