I just signed the death certificate on a wonderful lady I had the privilege to take care of for the past 25 years. I know it was her time, and I am grateful she is no longer suffering, but damn it, I miss her presence in my life. I was a guest at her 100th birthday celebration 18 months ago, attended by about 150 people, when she got on stage and played her saxophone.

She was one class act, and as it was when my grandmother passed 7 years ago, at the tender age of 108, I was not ready to say goodbye yet.

There's much to be grateful for this week, affirmation by the 9th Circuit of Judge Walker's opinion on Prop 8, the successful votes in Washington State's legislature for Marriage Equality (Gov. Gregoire plans to sign in on Monday), and my husband returns tonight after a week back east visiting my mother-in-law.

I just took a break from cooking to have a bite to eat and check my email.

I had not expect to hear of the death of Bonnie Tinker who was attending Friends General Conference. She was reportedly hit by by a truck while riding her bicycle. Bonnie was the force behind Love Makes a Family a group that supports lesbian and gay families. Bonnie was a member of one of the Portland Friends Meetings (Multnomah, I believe) and as widely known in both the LGBT and Quaker communities.

I'm grieving her loss Friends. While I did not know her personally, her work and her light affected my life for the better. This is a sad day.
