RTFM......
Sep. 12th, 2019 09:26 amJust before we left last week for the river, the lake house fridge stopped making ice. There wasn’t time to deal with it then, so I shut the ice maker off and figured I would deal with it when we got back in a few days. We got back Tuesday night, and yesterday morning I went out to do the marketing. As I posted yesterday, I’ve been busy.
When I returned from the market, I noticed the insides of the fridge was cool, not cold. The command center on the outside of the door was flashing Off. The light in the fridge was working and the water thru the door was functional as well, albeit not especially cold. Time to crack open the owners’ manual, which of course was no where to be found.
Thanks to the modern internet, the manual was easily found on line & downloaded. All 116 pages of it. Hey n 3 different languages. 15 minutes later I discovered the models of this fridge sold in the US & Canada have a shop setting where the compressor is turned off, but all other electrical functions are left running. It’s specifically or the show room floor. Somehow that setting had gotten switched on. It took a couple of minutes to find out how to re-enable the compressor & get the damned thing cooling again. Later in the evening I switched on the ice maker again and at midnight it started cranking out ice again.
As frustrated as I am that it took me almost 30 minutes to figure out what was wrong and fix it, I’m relieved both that it was nothing serious and that the food in the freezer remained pretty much still frozen for the four days we were gone. Granted the thing was closed the whole time, but still, it’s a testimony to the thing’s insulation. Amen, for the modern conveniences that allowed me to rtfm.
I did toss a bunch of stuff in the refrigerator section, open mayonnaise and several open salad dressings, but for he most part this was not the disaster it could have been.
