Alpha and Omega......
Apr. 12th, 2008 11:11 amThis afternoon will be a strange point and counter point.
I have a baptism at 4; a funeral at 5.
Naomi is 9 months old now. I delivered her and t'was me that suggested her name to her parents. Love that name; always have. So soft on the ears and light on the tongue. The book of Ruth (another name of which I'm fond), clinched my affection for the name. It means sweet in Hebrew, by the way. Her baptism today will be in one of Santa Rosa's larger parishes serving the latino community.
The party post baptism, I will unfortunately have to skip. A really lovely woman originally from southeast Asia, a patient of whom I was rather fond, died suddenly on Tuesday of complications of the rheumatic heart disease she suffered as a result of poor access to care back in her country of origin when she was in her early teens. The ravages of an untreated strep throat at 12, cost her her life in her mid 50's, a tragedy which could have been averted for the cost of week's worth of penicillin 40 years ago. Her funeral is at the Buddhist Temple at 5.
I'm debating just what to wear today. It's supposed to be in the 80's this afternoon. I'm thinking the mostly black Hawai'ian shirt with the two thin stripes of green and beige flowers that go down its sides, over a pair of dark green slacks should do double duty.
