Well that was a first......
Jun. 8th, 2008 01:53 amLJ, Jan and I went to supper tonight at the RRR, and then watch a very campy impersonator of Ethel Merman sing disco music. She was there as part of a fundraiser for Under One Roof, an HIV/AIDS charity down in the city.
They both headed for home at the intermission, but I was in the mood to stay for karaoke which was set to follow. I'm just getting over a mild cold, so I didn't expect to stay long, nor did I think my voice was gonna hold out terribly long.
I was first up at the mike, first warbling "I am Changing" followed by "Georgia on my Mind".
Apparently, I was in better voice than I thought. As I finished my second number, a man standing near me stuffed a five in my hand, then stepped back and started applauding. I was dumbfounded. Very complemented, but dumbfounded. I've had people send over a drink before, but never anyone who just pushed money into my hand. Ya' know, it felt rather affirming.
Two weeks ago, someone grabbed me and said "I just signed you up to sing. Do "Live Like You Were Dying" and I'll tip Dan (my friend the KJ) $10." So I did. And then she did. That was my last time out to sing, thought I thought then, I need to get out more often.
Time for bed. I think I'll try to rouse my hubby.
