The arms of Morpheus
Jun. 24th, 2008 01:21 amIn the midst of the bed clothes, tossed about, awry, testimony to the ardor of the hour passed, he lays, snoring softly in a slumber so peaceful, I cannot bear to awaken him. I too am sated, dampness at the nape of my neck, my hair moist from the heat of the moment. I'm tired, yet still too electric to think of sleep myself, content to bask in the satisfaction that can be married life. He stirs in his sleep, then relaxes once again into a lover's embrace, though now the lover's not me, but Morpheus.
I nibble as I write, a bit of Panella not consumed by the rellenos and the guests of the weekend passed; a red banana, sweet yet firm, subtle in its creamy texture, a hint of citrus at its core. I sublimate my desire for him, in this, perhaps, not as sated as I'd thought. I would savor him again, gleefully, though he sleeps. He is spent. It is time to let sleeping dogs lie.
Last evening, actually yesterday afternoon, when guests had all departed for distant homes, and we were at last alone, we fell into bed and tore at each other's clothing, soon bare and afire. In the aftermath, exhausted from more than just our lovemaking, I looked at him with heavy eyes and decided I should nap a bit. "Wake me when you're ready for dinner, " I said. It was then 6pm. I awoke at 3 am, a phone call from Labor and Delivery; a false alarm, they wished to send the woman home. Within minutes, I was asleep again, awakening only at the beaconing of the alarm, at ten passed seven. "Morning," he whispered, before burying his nose behind my ear.
I am amazed. This incredible man, my husband of nearly 27 years, is now my fiance.
We attended Meeting for worship yesterday, my Meeting this time, rather than his. At rise of Meeting, the former Clerk of my Meeting announced he and his partner of 34 years had married at the county clerk's office June 17th. We were asked there after if we had plans to marry; when we said we did and wanted it under the care of Meeting, I swear I saw members of my Meeting begin to salivate. My Meeting minuted its support of same gender marriage 12 years ago; however, no one has given them the opportunity, at least not till now. When someone mentioned they'd thought marrying under Meeting's care was a lengthy process, our current Clerk quickly said, "Oh, I think we can get this one done pretty quickly."
