Unexpected tears........
Sep. 17th, 2009 07:49 pmI was web surfing a bit and just left to HRC wedding registry site, my face wet with tears I had not expected to shed.
For those of you unaware, the Human Rights Campaign started a wedding registry last year to gather donations to help fund HRC's work. I think they began right after the Calif. Supreme Court first ruled in favor of same gender marriage, while the petition to get Prop 8 on the ballot where first being circulated. With marriages legal and happening in Vermont, Massachusettes, Connecticut, & Iowa and soon in New Hampshire and Maine (assuming prop 1 fails the latter), I expected to see a bunch of same gender couples happily announcing either their wedding or domestic partnership/civil union plans.
I was unprepared to find the majority of the couples on the registry are staight couples who're striving to make their weddings a support for our community and my marriage. I wish each of those people who were moved to do this knew how grateful I am to them for being the people they are.
