News from Hawai'i
Sep. 10th, 2013 12:53 pmLate yesterday afternoon Gov. Neil Abercrombie announced there will be a special session of the state legislature to take up marriage equality on the Monday, the 28th of October. While nothing is for certain until the vote actually happens, it seems highly unlikely to me that the Governor, who is in favor of marriage equality, would call for this session if he was not confident of having the votes in the legislature to have it pass. Stay tuned for details!
Incidentally, this will 5 days after the Supreme Court of New Mexico hears oral arguments in a case that will clarify state law regarding the legality of same-sex marriages. This is after all 33 county clerks in the state asked for guidance on the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
