I was just reviewing someone's medical records; they recently transferred their care to my office.

Their surgical history indicates "a cholecystectomy in 1980, a hernia repair in 1982, and a cesarean section in 1984, followed by a tubal litigation." Given the nature of many of the new EMR's (electronic medical records), the significant previous medical history is automatically repeated in every encounter note, so every two pages, I've been reminded this nice lady has had a tubal litigation.

I've heard patients mistakenly use the word litigation when they meant ligation, but I've never seen it codified in their medical record before.

I wonder if her last provider was sued for a wrongful birth?

Might make a good come-on line in a bar: "Pardon me sir, but may I see your tubal litigation?"

That would be odd

That's what happens when you send a lawyer to do a doctor's job. He "litigates" his way through.

Maybe the tubal ligation didn't go well.
