Second exam table done....
Apr. 29th, 2012 03:45 pm....so apparently I went to med school to become the chief cook and bottle washer in my office. I've gotten a bunch of positive comments from patients about how great the "new" exam table looks. Yesterday, I was in the hallway when I heard the conversation between my office manager and a long time patient. Oana was pitching in to room patients, while my medical assistant was tied up vaccinating a couple of kids. The conversation went something like:
Patient: "I can't get over that new exam table; it's SO much nicer than the old one!"
So, a few minutes later when I went in to see the lady, I got grilled. How hard was it to do the exam table and do I think she could re-do her kitchen set?
Isn't that the sort of thing everyone asks their medical provider?
So I have one more table to do, and that one I expect will be the most difficult of the three. That one is an older model from I suspect the early 70's and the top is attached to the frame with bolts, not Velcro. The framework of both the table and the table top is all metal, and so the old upholstery is attached with what appears to be hot glue and not upholstery staples. This one may prove a bigger challenge.
Then, I have at least two chairs to do.
Somehow, I doubt many of my local colleagues are doing things like this themselves.

Oana: "Thanks, but it IS the old one. It's been re-upholstered."
Patient: "Oh, really! It looks great! I imagine that saved some major cash over replacing it. How expensive was it to have it done?"
Oana: "We didn't "have" it done. Doc did it himself."
Patient: "You're kidding me! No way!"
Oana: "Way. No, really, he did it himself. The only cost was the vinyl. That, and his time."
