Yet another mass shooting........

What is it, 2 weeks since the last one? Six Sikhs shot dead in their house of worship no less. This time the identified shooter, also among the dead, is another angry white guy, who was booted out of the military. (Well, sort of. He was found drunk on duty, busted from a sargent to a specialist and made ineligible to reenlist.)

So, what are the odds that we will see some sort of gun legislation emerge from this tragedy?

(Not holding my breath, though I did write to my congressperson. Again.)

Make that angry, probably bigoted and almost certainly poorly informed white guy. I can only imagine this ignunt bastard saw beards, turbans and darker skin tones and immediately went into murderous islamaphobe mode, being completely unaware that the Sikh and Muslim faiths are completely unrelated - and in fact have had a history of, shall we say, friction. (I recall reading that one of the Sikh gurus was killed defending the religious freedom of Hindus from a then-Muslim government.)

it's too soon for any of us to know, but I have a strong suspicion you may well be right.

Please note that the first person assaulted and killed in this country, by a vigilante attempting vengeance for the 9/11 attacks was a turbaned Sikh gunned down on 9/13. I believe that was somewhere in Arizona.

The murder you mention is exactly what made me think a similar pattern of bigotry and ignorance is behind this shooting.

Ya know... as I've been trying to make analogies to people I tell them this: I didn't go into debt until I had the credit card in my wallet. I'm sure the people who did these killings didn't think about shooting anyone until they were able to get a gun as well.

And then I refer them to the film, "Crash," circa 2005, I believe.

Will anything happen? I remain optimistically pessimistic about it.
