osodecanelaFor those of you who don't know, I live outside of a small town in northern California. (population 4,534 in the last census)
As I passed through town on my way to work in Santa Rosa, I stopped at the local organic grocery to pick up a tea strainer. The place is small and rarely are there more than 1/2 a dozen people in it at any time.
When I came to the register, the dark haired woman behind the counter looked up, spotting not only me, but the man a couple of feet behind me, another ginger, bearded bear. She furrowed her brow, then turned to look behind her, to glance at the other two people in the store, who stood chatting between her and the produce case, only to see a third bearded ginger bear with his friend, a fourth bearded ginger.
We were the only people in the store.
She rotated her head to scan us all a second and then a third time, and then finally asked, "Do you all have a secret handshake or something?"
