So I had a lunchtime meeting with a local home health company to discuss becoming their medical director and yes I think I'm interested. This however is more about people's expectations and thoughts about distance and activities.

The restaurant where we met is one that caters to those of us who need to remain gluten free. The food is just plain excellent, both the regular and gluten free versions. Their fish tacos are among the best I have ever had; as I've said before, "give me fish and I'm a happy puppy".

I pass Jackson's every morning on my drive in. They're two blocks south of the downtown freeway exit I take on my way to work. This morning rather than hit the gym for a run, I decided I would walk to my meeting and back. Before I left the house, I'd estimated it was a 2 mile walk each way, but checking the mileage on my odometer, it clocked in at just 1.25. I was surprised I'd misjudged the distance so badly. Certainly, it would prove a very easy walk and I was there with plenty of time to spare, so I added a two block circle, making it a 1.5 mile walk to get there. I did that in a not to brink 30 minutes, not wanting to be sweated up when I got there.

Both the ladies were surprised I'd walked. "So far", they both said. Since when is a mile and a quarter so far? And we wonder why our society has developed such a huge problem with obesity? The woman I'd walked to her car (see my earlier post) last year was a bit surprised to see so much less of me than when she'd seen me last year. Our conversation started with what has gone on with me weight/health-wise, although they both already knew I'd picked Jackson's for its gluten free menu.

After we finished both lunch and our discussion, I headed back to my office by way of College Ave, specifically going out of my way to increase my distance. I decided to do a 4 mile walk when I decided to hike to the meeting, and four miles was what I was going to do.

My ankles a just a wee bit achy as I write. Not majorly so, but enough they're letting me know. I'm glad I decided to change to the track shoes for the hike, rather than my Birks. If I use the elliptical, I can go up to 6.5 miles without any pain whatsoever, but just walking on sidewalks at my current weight and my ankles are complaining. This makes me wonder if I will ever be able to run on open ground. Only time, and the scale, will tell.
