Pennsylvania...
May. 20th, 2014 12:18 pmOregon yesterday and today, Pennsylvania.
Today a Federal district court judge threw out their state constitutional ban on marriage equality. To my knowledge so far there is no stay. Their governor is a republican facing a tough re-election battle which I would dearly love to see him lose. No clarity if he will request a stay or not. Their democratic Atty Gen. is not defending the ban and will not request a stay.
There is a three day waiting period to be able to get married after getting a license in the state so unless that requirement is waived, it will be Friday before any wedding bells ring.
So the first state in the nation to take interracial marriage prohibitions off of its law books in 1778 joins the ranks of marriage equality today. It's a good day to be alive, indeed.
