It's been a decent day so far. I awoke to a kiss from my husband as he left for court. (Nothing's wrong - the man is an attorney!) The power outage last night was over when I awoke. Physically, nothing hurts. When I came into the sitting room from brushing my teeth, there was a really sweet card from my mother-in-law.

Today it seems, I turned 60.

Mom called last night and we spent nearly half an hour on the phone. I was her first born and listening to her recount her wonder at staring into my once tiny little (unbearded) face and her disbelief that was 60 years ago. It all left me a bit misty-eyed.

I need to get my rear in gear. There are patients to see. We're closing early today to go have a picnic in the park this afternoon, so ciao for now friends. It's a beautiful day out there.

And a virtual birthday kiss from a total stranger.

having read your journal as long as I have, though I rarely comment, I cannot think of you as a total stranger. Many thanks, Jer.

And btw, I love the icon above. Reminds me of my hair back in the mid 70's

Nope, no beard at birth. Had to wait for high school for it to make its first entrance. Other than an ill-advised 10 day period just before I finished med school, I haven't been clean shaven since I was a freshman in college.

Thanks Dave!

thanks Bill. I speak to Mom at a minimum every 10 days - sometimes more when I can get my head above water. Our last conversation was unusual as I wasn't driving, and she called me rather than the other way around. Probably one of our longer conversations in a while, though we have been talking more frequently since her last cancer dx. It's been an interesting winter, now segueing into a more encouraging spring.

It's been way too long since I've seen the two of you. PLEASE give Daniel my love.

Any room for travel on the agenda?

not in the near future- to many responsibilities here and not enough funds. Maybe come fall. Would love to come north to see the two of you, but there have been family issues back east. Mom likely will be facing further surgery in the year (valve surgery), once she is fully recovered from the cancer surgery of January.

A very Happy Birthday. I recently turned 60 too. I'm not sure how I got this old this quickly, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. :)

On some levels, I never could imagine being this old, yet on others the thought is, "Who the hell thought 60 is old?"

By the way, as anonymous, you have me at a disadvantage. Who are you?

And now I'm late to the party. ;)

Well, I guess it's never too late to give you a hug. Alas, it has to be only virtual.

Thank you Dari. I still find it hard to believe I'm this old. I don't feel old. I feel better these days than I had in years, now that the arthritis and psoriasis are in remission. And btw, Dari, if the guest of honor is still there, you're not late to the party - you're just fashionable.

So even I can be fashionable for once. ;)

It now occurred to me that you are only three years younger than my mother (well, it was a time of early marriages), and I can't think of her as "old".

Just keep feeling young! :)
