What was I thinking?
May. 30th, 2018 07:13 pmI’ve been overly working in the yard for the past few weeks. It unfortunately has been keeping me from the gym. Given how devastating the fires were last year, fire abatement has been my primary driver here. However, with both Weedwhackers on the fritz, although one of them one is likely going to be back from the repair shop tomorrow, I decided it was a good day for me to head out to the gym and rather than slave in the yard, stooped & weeding by hand.
At about 12:30 I decided to bug out to the gym. The day with Sunny & not too warm, so I decided to walk, the first time I’ve done so. My gym you see in a little bit over 4 miles away and I thought , “Why go there to run? Why not simply walk there, lift weights, and then walk home?“ LJ was busy painting the front of the garage and as I left, I told him where I was going and how. Perhaps I would call him when I was done and he’d come get me.
The trek there is predominantly uphill and I discovered thanks to my Charity Miles app, just over 4 miles door to door. Did I mention it’s significantly up hill? In any event, it took me an hour and 20 minutes to get to the gym, where I spent roughly half an hour lifting weights. I went next-door to the market thereafter & treated myself to a diet ANW. I was feeling pretty good and decided, what the hell, why don’t I walk back? A friend called 2 minutes into my hike and we chatted most of the way back.
As I was getting to the bottom of the steep incline, I noticed the medial aspect of each of my big toes was burning. The last mile and a quarter were mostly level, and it was not a comfortable walk any longer. Eight and a quarter miles round trip has left me with tense blisters on both big toes. My ankles are a bit achy, but it’s my blisters which are going to give me a few days of misery.
