Paradise lost .....

osodecanelaWe were having breakfast. The early morning had been sunny & clear. Then suddenly, it wasn’t. In a matter of just a few minutes, the lake basin was filling with smoke coming in from the northeast. I called the sheriff’s department when I saw nothing in the local Nixle alerts. Smoke wafting in from Butte county, I was told. Well that IS northeast if here. Like by 140 miles.
Dumbfounding! That fire only started this morning! It was reported at 6:30 this morning. The smoke was already 140 miles away by 10 am? Damn. Apparently tonight the smoke has made it all the way down to the Bay Area, with air quality impacted severely as far as SF.
Reports tonight the town of Paradise is gone, having burned to the ground. According to the news, other than some of the buildings of the local hospital on the outskirts of Paradise, the whole bloody town is gone.
I had not expected more blazes this fire season. We’re already in November for chrissakes!
